Criminal Defense in China is a National Science Foundation–funded research project that studied the development of criminal procedure law and practice in China between 2005 and 2015. The research had three main components:
- What are the policy debates over China’s Criminal Procedure Law?
- How do lawyers implement criminal procedure law in their everyday practices?
- What sorts of international influences shape Chinese criminal procedure law and practice?
The principal findings of the research were published in Criminal Defense in China: The Politics of Lawyers at Work (Cambridge University Press, 2016), which was favorably reviewed in the August 2017 New York Review of Books.
