Norman M. Powell, Delaware Life Fellow, Selected as Executive Director of the Institute for Law and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School

Norman M. Powell, Delaware Life Fellow, was announced as the Executive Director of the Institute for Law and Economics, University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, effective July 1st, 2023. He succeeds Larry Hamermesh, the current Executive Director, and Professor Emeritus of Widener University Delaware Law School.

The Institute for Law and Economics, also known as ILE, was founded in 1980 and is a joint initiative by the University of Pennsylvania Law School, the Wharton School, and the Department Economics. Programming by the ILE seeks to bring together academics, lawyers, judges, business leaders and policymakers for discussions about corporate law, governance, business and finance.

Mr. Powell is currently a partner at Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP, out of their Wilmington, DE office. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Business Law Section of the ABA and is slated to serve as the chair in 2025-2026. In addition to being a Fellow of the ABF, he is a member of the American Law Institute, the Permanent Editorial Board for the UCC, and the TriBar Opinion Committee, and a former member of the Board of Directors and current member of the Advisory Board of the Working Group on Legal Opinions Foundation.
